starfishblue Posted January 1, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 1, 2008 We use Skin so Soft (by Avon) for great mosquito repellant at home. Anyone tried it in the rainforest in Panama or Costa Rica? Thanks, Beth
pacmom Posted January 1, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 1, 2008 We were just in the Peruvan rainforest. The insect repellent recommended should have a DEET level of at lest 25%. There are also repellents that you can spray on your clothes, but not on you. A store with camping equipment will have just what you need. We sprayed our clothes and had repellent wipes for our exposed skin. Don't forget the back of your neck and your ears. Also if using sun screen in conjunction with the repellent, apply sunscreen wait 30 min then apply bug repellent. Pat
98Charlie Posted January 1, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 1, 2008 Her's a link to a site about choosing an insect repellent. SSS is ok for the backyard. But, I would use other products for rainforests (or even the woodlands of Ohio :) ) Charlie
starfishblue Posted January 2, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted January 2, 2008 Thanks, I was just about to order more SSS, and a little nigly voice in my head said that might not be the thing to do. Thanks for the info, we'll definitely do deet. Thanks, Beth
