Rental car in Nassau

Has anyone ever rented a car in Nassau and if so how is it to drive around there? We will be in Nassau a day and a half and thought a rental car would really allow us to see alot more. Also is there a rental car agency within walking distance to the port?

Driving in Nassau is a gamble. Driving is on the left, roads are in disrepair, no street signs, few lights and stop signs, downtown traffic jams and Crazy drivers. Gas is $5.50 per gallon and drunk driving is a way of life.

Jitney drivers race around cars for their next pick up, and people stop in the middle of traffic to chat with friends.. it's a disaster.

I own a car in Nassau and take a jitney whenever possible.

Take a Jitney to check out Cable Beach, or rent a cab to take you for a tour.

Quite frankly, these days, it's not a good idea to get lost in the back roads of Nassau.
