Anyone rented a car in Progreso

I don't have a direct answer for you.

However ...

My parents vacation in Progreso all winter and they've said over and over they'd never even think of driving down there. The roads are more than a little wild and insurance is hit and miss. You hit someone or something and you're unlikely to make it back to the ship. Worse is the possibility of someone crashing into you.

The people are lovely and exceedingly friendly, but I'd advise against this one. A bus is a far, far safer alternative.

We never rented a car there, but please be careful if when doing so you give them a credit card. We rented a car in Antigua once and they said the charge was $75. When we got the credit card it was charged to us as $861. We had to call the credit card company and have reciepts and from the rental company (luckly we had them) and write letters to get the credit. We did get credit on the credit card for the difference, but it took about 6 months. So please be careful.
