Just booked a lesser cabin than before?

We just booked our 3rd Hal cruise for late Fall 2008. We were on the Noordam this past October and just loved the Ship and sailing from N.Y which meant that we could drive to the Port.

We are very sad that we are having to travel to Ft Lauderdale for the next cruise but the Noordam is worth the trip. However to cut our cost a bit we booked a VA cabin instead of the SY that we had on the last cruise.

What are your comments on the VA ? Will we find it really much smaller than the SY?

I look forward to your comments and impressions.

We’re booked again, so that is wonderful but I would like to know what to expect.

Hi Frankie Sue,

We've not actuality stayed in VA on HAL, but, it's a fairly standard balcony. Although HAL cabins are a bit roomier than those on other lines.

We did very much enjoy our SS cabin on the Noordam last year. SS and SY share the same amount of cabin space at 294 square feet as compared to 194 square feet for the VA. Basically you will lose much of the roominess you experienced the SY cabin. Furthermore the balcony is 50% smaller at 47 square feet compared to the SY cabin whose balcony is 98square feet. I believe the bathroom will also be a tad smaller.

The old axiom "You never really spend that much time in your cabin" we found to be not necessarily true after we discovered how lovely the SS cabin was last year. In fact we booked the same cabin for this April's Transatlantic.

So, you'll save some bucks and put it towards some nice excursions or another cruise next year. Have a great voyage.

Jonathan
