butterfly2 Posted April 17, 2009 #1901 Share Posted April 17, 2009 Hi Laura! Remember me? Its Libby (Butterfly) from our last years Adventure Of The Seas trip to Southern Caribbean. I see that you are going on AOS again! That was a GREAT trip wasn't it. We have a trip planned on the Liberty OTS next March. We will be with our kids and other family members celebrating our daughters High School graduation. Didnt you try a Carnival Cruise after our AOS cruise? How was it and what ship did you sail? Hey by the way..... I shouldda bought that snow shovel from you. We were hit hard this year. Take care and Happy Sailing! Libby
Addictedtocruising Posted April 17, 2009 #1902 Share Posted April 17, 2009 There are so many pages to go through so I am going to ask this question and hope for a quick response :D I am doing the Barbados route in September and am wondering which side the ship docks in most of the ports St Lucia, St John's, St Maarten & St Croix. Thanks much Donna

Thanks much Donna IMHO I think you would be Ok w/ a balcony on either side of ship. Most of these ports they back the ship up and dock. So the stearn is facing into the island. I think I remember two yrs. ago in Antigua they pulled straight in and it almost looked like we were gonna drive right into town and run thru the flea market right there at the port. Either side is good, there are just awesome views on that itenerary from any point of view.

Thanks much Donna I can't speak for St Lucia & St. John's since we did the Aruba route. In St. Maarten she backs in, and the pier is on the right (starboard) side of the ship. There were 3 other (smaller) ships in port with us that day. In St. Thomas she backs in too, and the pier is on the left (port) side of the ship. HTH! I just booked my hotel this morning so that helps with the symptoms.:D I'm booked at the Radisson resort and casino, has anyone stayed there? If so, what should I expect? tuliplvr Posted May 12, 2009 #1911 Share Posted May 12, 2009 In Barbados we decided to do the zipline.. For St. Croix.. we aren't going to book anything. We may be tired from doing something on the other ports so we will wing it on that day!
toonjie Posted May 13, 2009 #1912 Share Posted May 13, 2009 Any suggestions, we still have not decided what to do in Barbados and St. Croix? Thank you! For Barbados, I would recommend Harrison's Cave and or Welchman's Gulley, then heading over to Bathsheba and have lunch there overlooking the ocean. (See the Barbados board for recommendations and pictures of some nice places.) Then head over to Accra Beach (Rockley) for some swimming or into town for some shopping. You can rent a car right at the pier, but getting around is very difficult since roads are marked extremely poorly. You can also get a cab by going out of the port facility and catching a cab there since it will be much cheaper than the cabs that come in the port. Just go past the gate with the guards and strike a deal with a cabbie and agree on a price. The Barbados board is one of the best with several locals on it that can tell you everything you want to know.
NYCRUISR Posted May 13, 2009 #1913 Share Posted May 13, 2009 My only complaint about my AOS cruise last year was the airfare. Twice we sailed out of San Juan and Twice, the airlines have picked my pockets. Otherwise........ A1 all the way.

Baby must be getting BIG! :) Thank you for your suggestions! Harrison's Cave is closed the day we get there unfortunately, but we probably will do the rest of what you said. It was closed the last time we were there as well and that is how we discovered Welchman's Gulley-Glad we did, it was awesome! (Say hi to the "Gulley Dog") It's too bag that when AOS calls on this port, the #1 tourist attraction is closed, but there is a law in Barbados that workers have to have 2 days off in a row and since they are open on weekends, you can't get to go now. The AOS used to do the itinerary in reverse, starting in St. Thomas and working it's way down to Barbados, so that is when we got all the pictures. mag0737 Posted May 16, 2009 #1918 Share Posted May 16, 2009 Any suggestions, we still have not decided what to do in Barbados and St. Croix? Thank you! Welllll...we were going to go on the Shipwreck Snorkel and Pirate Adventure in Barbados - but based on the poor reviews it got on the Barbados board - we're back to square one. As toonjie said, there are some locals (one in particular) who will answer any question you have quickly. We're now thinking of doing the snorkel w/ the turtles. For St Croix - I think we're going to be wiped. There's not a lot of excursions, at least not from what I've found. We're just going to use it as a beach day. If you go to the St Croix board - there are some posts as to what beaches to find. Hope this helps.

zywnywld Posted May 26, 2009 #1923 Share Posted May 26, 2009 A few years ago my wife wouldn't fly to France. She heard the people didn't like Americans. I took my oldest son, had a few days where we might have been the drunk bothering people and had the best time.
miss nikki Posted May 26, 2009 #1924 Share Posted May 26, 2009 Anybody have any problems booking Portofino while on board? Should we make advance reservations online? We're planning on treating my parents to dinner our last night, but we have some OBC I'd like to use for the reservation. Thanks! We leave in just over 4 days, and it hasn't even hit me yet!! :p
