Robyn can you tell me when they have the parade in the promonarde & where is the best place to stand? Thanks

The 70's Party on the Promenade is on Wednesday, and the Promenade Parade called Island Frenzy is on Friday at 10:45pm. I would recommend getting there early and finding a seat outside the Cafe Promenade. You will likely have to stand as people will be in front of you.

My husband and I just booked this cruise last week for Oct. Reading this thread has gotten me even more excited(if that is possible). Question regarding the parades...we booked a promenade room 7611 Will we have a good view of the parades from our room? Also, a little nervous about an interior, we have always had OV. But we thought a promenade room would be fun. Do they setup for the lifestyle portraits in the Centrum on AOS like they do on some of the other ships? Will we be able to see those from our room? We love to watch people have their portraits taken. Don't really know why, but it is something we discovered we enjoyed on Enchantment. We liked to get a cone from Ben and Jerry's and sit and eat it and watch the portraits being taken at night. Alot cheaper than the time we would spend in the Casino!

Robyn and all,

What a wonderful thread! I am supposed to bill clients by the hour, but I have dedicated over 90 minutes reading this entire thread. It was worth it!

I have built an 8 page word document of notes and websites submitted by all of you. Thank you very much.

I have been on the Voyager (2001) and Explorer (2003) as well as the Splendour and the Radiance. All were wonderful, different things to like about each.

My sister, the Cruisinfool, and her DH, along with my sweetheart, the lovely Ms. Sheila, and I are looking at the AOS on March 15, 2009, a week after you return, Robyn. I want to wake up on St. Patrick's Day, my XXXX birthday, in Aruba.

I love aft balconies and had one on the Explorer. Even with the aforementioned steel obstructions, and the long walk to the back, it was worth it.

We had 23 in our party on the Radiance last December, but I think our group might be as small as 10 for this cruise.

Our biggest concern is the cost of airfare to San Juan. We fly out of Kansas City and can usually nail cheap fares to Ft. Lauderdale. Will we see a large increase in price for our week because it is Spring Break in many places?

Oh and Robyn, would you please send me the Compasses. My e-mail address is pg8932@aol.com.

Thanks for loving the AOS and for sharing so much information.

Patrick - I'm sorry you lost money today....but look at what you have gained!!!! You are now an AOS expert ;)

You love aft balconies and are aware (and accepting) of the fact that on Voyager class ships there is a superstructure to deal with - I say go ahead and book an aft cabin! I had JS 1100 on the Radiance and it was by far the most outstanding cabin I have had to date, so I know how you feel about Radiance class afts!

I can't help you too much with airfare - I am in Canada and we unfortunately pay through the nose to get to San Juan. I factor that cost into the total cost of the cruise vacation, and in the end it is always worth it :) The prices for AOS cruises through the month of March are usually quite stable - but you will see price increases as the sail date draws closer and the ship starts to really fill.

I will happily send you the compasses via email - and if you have any other questions about the AOS don't hesitate to post here, one of us can answer your question I'm sure!!!

Happy Sailing! :D

It's a boy:

My wife had and ultrasound yesterday and we found out we are having a boy. He's 4 months along so he'll be less than 6 months on his first cruise on the AOS! Lucky little bugger will turn diamond with all of us on our Mariner cruise this December when he'll be 4 months or so out of the womb! (and it took me 45 years! ;) )

Robyn,

Mind if I join the compass crusade? We leave in less than 2 weeks and I would love to give the compasses a once over before we go. My e-mail address is the same as my CC user name at gmail dot com.

Thank you!

Can I get the compasses, too? I am considering this for next April (Aruba route). medicalnews at optonline dot net.

Thank you!

Congratulations on the baby boy! Wow what a lucky little dude..:) Can't wait to hear his first cruise review. It'll be interesting from the perspective of a 6 month old. lol

congrats on your exciting news!! :) have you decided on a name yet???

Marsha

Thanks! No name picked out yet, we were pretty set on girl names, but now that it's a boy we broke out the baby name books again. Maybe we should have a naming contest like for the Genesis ships! ;)

For those that have sailed already can you please help:

I always buy my own airfare because I always sailout of Florida.

Next year we are on the AOS and sailing out of San Juan. I have opted to do RCI air. I am a Diamond member, so I think custom air fee is waived. It is also Easter week, so a very busy and expensive week to travel.

My question is has anyone flown from JFK to SJU using custom RCI air, and could tell me what airline they used and what flights.

Thanks

We are flying on Delta from JFK to SJU, departs in the AM around 8:30 and arrives SJU just after noon, we booked the air on our own.

Robyn,

I haven't received the compasses yet via my e-mail- I am wondering if the there is a glitch in the e-mail or something. I do appreciate your willingness to e-mail them to everyone - it is a lot of work for you. Thanks in advance.

Has everyone else's come through OK?

Hi ckrobyn:

Thanks for starting this thread. I did read somewhere in it that you have stayed at the Courtyard Isla Verde Beach Resort before and I am looking for a little information. I have posted on the San Juan thread area without any luck.

I have read the good reviews about this hotel on tripadvisor, but just wanted to get any additional input anyone can offer. We are planning on staying here when we return from our cruise for just one night and would like to be close to the airport. We have stayed at the Stellars Marriott before, but since we are traveling with others we didn't want to spend that much.

I know the taxi fares are set, just wondering what the charges would be for the following:

  • Taxi charge from Pan American pier to hotel
  • Taxi charge from hotel to airport
  • Taxi charge from hotel to Old San Juan

A couple of other questions:

  • Are there shops in the hotel area?
  • How was service?
  • Rooms clean?
  • Where do you recommend to eat?

Thank you very much for any assistance you can offer.
