Just returned from the 09/06 sailing of the Celebration out of Galveston. Other than some rough sailing on the 2nd day, we had a good trip. Just wanted to pass along something we learned. When you purchase your pictures they now post a notice that when you scan the pictures you will get "embedded" Carnival logos across the picture. We tried this out when we got home and they scanned just fine.

Just thought that this might be useful information to somebody. Not that we're trying to take a hit on Carnival's profits but our group had (12) people and the amount we spend on family photos was very large. Had we known this, we might have saved a little bit of money. And then turned around and spent it in the casino!!! :-)

Playa del Carmen was very nice...we took a taxi to a National Park (can't remember the name..Xel something) that was farther down than X-Carrat. We swam with the dolphins, laid around and slept in hammocks and snorkeled.

Can't Wait to Cruise

Well, their scare tactics worked on our family. But at least we know now that we can scan the pics for the rest of the family that didn't get to go.

I was in Rite Aid making reprints of one of our pics for the family.....happily lying my way thru the disclaimers (regarding patents and such), paid at the counter, then when I walked out the door, it started going off. Store employees came over to see what I was stealing and we found a little plastic security thing on the back of the pic I'd just reproduced. I was afraid I was busted for making copies of pictures you can't legally copy but they just laughed. I was a little embarrassed but what the heck, it was a great pic and if we'd had known we wanted more copies, we'd have bought them onboard :). Although now I know you can do it elsewhere..;) Carol

LOL, using this moral logic, if one had just purchased a couple dozen CDs at a music store it would be ACCEPTABLE to steal a couple more. :D

I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist. I'm sure Healer is a very good person, but it seems that we, myself included, daily allow these little misdeeds to creep into our lives, never fully understanding, it would seem, how it really is something that we normally would find OBJECTIONABLE.

Its all a matter of degree, I guess. :)

Ok Gary,

So make me feel guilty now. When I took my mother on the cruise for her 80th birthday, we spent $160 on pictures taken by Carnival. After all, how many more chances will we have to cruise together and have these memories.

Since we only bought one of each picture, I went to Kinko's and made color copies so we could each have a set. And now you lay the guilt trip on me. I guess another sleepless night feeling the shame. NOT! ;)

They DO give you a release if you call - so IMHO making copies of the pictures is not against Carnival's policy - it is a policy set up to protect proffessional photographers - that is why Carnival has no problem giving the release. As to why they are telling people they would be able to scan - I can't figure that on out.

Just got off the Conquest and also bought more than $160 worth of pictures. The man checking me out asked if I wanted to purchase one of the Carnival photo albums. I said no thank you, and then he proceeded to "give" me one. Intersesting....

I didn't see nor hear anything about scanning the pictures would result in Carnival logo on scan. Anyways, since the reverse side of the picture did not say anything about Professional or Copyrighted, I carried them to a local drug store to see if I could make reprints. The clerk looked over the back real well, didn't see anything about it being illegal to reprint, so he allowed me to use the Kodak Picture Maker machine to produce wallets from the 8x10s. (I first had him to trim off the border at the bottom which contained the Carnival name and barcode.)

Just curious, has anyone ever tried to copy the Carnival Travel Log (video of the cruise) from the TV/VCR in your cabin? I thought about this last week, but didn't have a blank VHS tape to see if it would work. Thought maybe it was just a VCP, but it actually did have a RECORD button. Just wondering if that would have worked..?

I taped some of the talks given by the CD, Greg Kneale, on the Pride, along with shows such as Bedtime Story, etc. The VCR in the cabin worked just fine. I knew to take a blank VHS tape from a post on cruise critic.

I'm not sure that 'stealing CD's' is a fair comparison for this situation.

I guess what bothered me most is the false statement posted by Carnival. Maybe a different approach would be better. It's not like I made copies for dozens of people. And at $20 a pop, Carnival is definitely not losing that much money by me only buying 2-3 of each photo instead of 5 or 6.

Kathy & Healer,

You'll note upon re-reading my observations, I included the parenthetical phrase "MYSELF INCLUDED". I also went out of my way not to impune Healer's actions (and now yours also, Kathy) by saying, "HEALER IS MOST LIKELY A VERY GOOD PERSON" :D

So, you see, it is, most likely, a matter of DEGREE. :D

Incidentally, I must admit I sometimes take creamer and sugar packets home with me from a restaurant. Still just a matter of DEGREE.

I too have been trying to find out some details about Xel-ha. Our cruise is 10-9-04 on the Holiday. I do know that Xel-ha has a website and if you purchase tickets on-line you get like a 10% discount. We are bringing our 2 kids ages 12 and 16 so we're looking for a family outing (no bars). My 12 year old daughter says she doesn't want to snorkel (a little scared I think). I thought maybe if we went to this place we could snorkel, swim on beach, eat at restaurants, float on tubes, etc. all in the same area. According to the website, it looks like a "water" Six-Flags!!:) It's huge. They claim to have (6) restaurants, and the all inclusive fee covers lunch, drinks, snorkeling equip. (you get to keep the souvenir tube), a bag to put everything in, and lots of other stuff. I would just like to hear from someone who has ACTUALLY been there. All my info is from website.
