question about kid's program for 12 year old

We are considering taking our two grandkids on a cruise, looking at Liberty of the Seas. One thing that appealed to us about RCCL is the teen program splits into two groups-- 12-14 year olds, and then 15 -17 year olds. We think 12 is a little young to be hanging out with up to 17 year olds late at night. NOW, I just read on this website that LOS kid's program was for 13-17 year olds. Has anybody sailed this ship and can give me info? thanks! Martha....ps the other child is 9.
