PR1NCESSD1ANE Posted April 8, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 8, 2004 We will be on RCI's Serenade May 8 cruising through the Hawaiian islands and I'm wondering if anyone could provide links to maps that show precisely where the ships dock. I'm trying to do research on which islands I would be better off planning my own excursions or taking the ships excursions based on the distances to popular tourist attractions. Any other info you could suggest would be great. We will be visiting Hilo, Lahaina (Maui), Nawiliwili (Kauai), Kailua Kona and Honolulu (Oahu). Thanks! spleen93 Posted April 9, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2004 OK ... I'm going to need correction from those that have actually cruised the Islands because I haven't done it myself and I'm not entirely positive as to where the tenders come in. Kauai - ship docks at Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor in bottom right corner of map. Oahu - ship docks at Restaurant Tower Marketplace/Aloha Tower (bottom right center) Lahaina (Maui) - ship tenders come to shore at Lahaina Small Boat Harbor (I think! - could also be at Mala Wharf) (bottom center) Kona (Hawaii) - ship tenders to Kailua Pier (again, I think!) (bottom center) Hilo (Hawaii) - ship docks at Hilo Harbor (as to which pier depends on the day) (top right center) Hope this helps! PR1NCESSD1ANE Posted April 9, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted April 9, 2004 Spleen93: Thank you for your response. Do you know if any of these pier locations offer easy access to public transportation or have much of anything located within walking distance to enjoy? I've been to Lahaina and can visualize where we'll be near, but I'm clueless as to the other islands. I have a couple of e-mail requests into private tour companies asking whether they provide transportation, however, have not heard back yet. Can you recommend any of them that do? spleen93 Posted April 10, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 10, 2004 I would imagine that most cruise ports have public transportation available - fleets of taxis waiting when you get off, usually. Aloha Tower is on a major Bus route. Aloha Tower is close to certain attractions that can be walked to. Kauai has a beach nearby and a hotel but otherwise is far from other attractions. Lahaina is close to Lahaina. Hilo is a bit of a walk to get to Hilo town itself. Kona is right in the middle of Kona - but most attractions in Kona are out of town. Can't comment on private tour companies since i have no experience using them. Suebee Posted April 10, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 10, 2004 Now I am squeezing my memory banks here.... Lihue (I know it isnt what you asked but for someone else) has shuttles to Maui Ocean Center, Hilo Hatties in Lahaina and (walmart?). Lahaina has everythng you need so no shuttle needed but I am willing to bet Maui Ocean Center offers one from the pier there too. Nawiliwili has a shuttle to Hilo Hattie which is next door to walmart. But there isnt too much else in the direct vacinity without walking up and down the industrial strip. Hilo I do not remember announcements there, but there were certainly taxis and shuttles to car rentals. I cant comment on the private companies either. I do know that Kauai's movie tours has a shuttle because my MIL will use them this summer. Personally we rented cars in each port and the shuttles were waiting for us with our reservations in hand. spleen93 Posted April 10, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 10, 2004 Suebee - I think "Lihue" above should have been "Kahului", no? Suebee Posted April 10, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 10, 2004 Caugh me again. I must have squeezed too hard. All of the towns on Oahu beginning with "Wai" get me down too! NCL Star 1/04 What's Next? spleen93 Posted April 11, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 11, 2004 Suebee - are there that many towns starting with "Wai" on Oahu? Waikiki, Waimanalo, Waimea, Waipahu ... I guess that's quite a bit, come to think of it. There's probably some on the North Shore that I can't recall off the top of my head now too.
