Ship tour of island

I am rethinking a private tour to town. I've done many cruises but this is the first time I feel concerened about safety issues after much that I have read, even though we are street smart. Has anyone done a ship tour which tours the island?

 

I am going on cost Med. Even though I hate booking ship tours I am looking now at booking "Going off road in search of the real Dominican Republic" it is a 3 hour tour for $68. It takes you thru rural places, sugar cane, small rain forest, costa nursery, the streets of laRomana & central park, cigar factory, arts & crafts shop. This is on an open air safari truck.

 

I would love to hear opinions on this from those who have had similar experiences.

Don't be shy, someone must have done a ship tour from la Romana similar to described above. Hoping to hear some experience. You all are the best source of info.

Its been 2 weeks, haven't got any answers yet. Anyone done one of these type of cruise ship sponsored tours of the area?
