Has anyone cruised on the Golden Princess to Hawaii out of California? We are thinking of booking this cruise for next December but would like to know if anyone has done this cruise and what they recommend. Thank you!:)

I don't think the Golden has done this route yet. It will be starting the itinerary this fall. We just returned from the LA to Hawaii trip on the Diamond Princess and we loved it. We went in December over the holidays. We enjoyed it so much we rebooked for next Christmas on the Golden. We only wish that it was still going to be a 15 day cruise like the Diamond itinerary with Kona included, but instead it will be a 14 day with only 4 port days in Hawaii. Even so we can't wait to go again this Christmas.

thank you for the quick reply; we are in Idaho; where are you? We are still looking at prices for this cruise; where did you get your tickets and what would be a good price for this cruise without air fare? We have been using Cruisemates.com to have agents bid for our buisness.

thank you

We live in Southern California so we don't have to factor in airfare since we are only about 80 miles from port. We actually rebooked onboard our Diamond cruise so we could get the low deposit and future cruise credits that Princess offers. When we got home I called our TA and he even improved our price. It's around $5800 for an inside cabin for four of us. We usually do an outside, but we decided to go for the cost savings this time since we really didn't use our window much this trip.

Next September will be the Golden's first time to Hawaii. This year was the Diamond Princess, and before that, the Island Princess, which is the ship I was on for this itinerary (the 12/22/05 cruise).

We booked the cruise 13 months ahead through Princess, deciding on which cabin (midships because there tends to be rough seas for a couple of days after leaving San Pedro) and marking our booking "no upgrade."

We also drove to the port (50 miles for us), but used a car service as 15-days of luggage would never fit neither of our sedans' trucks.
