Dlynn Posted January 28, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 28, 2008 Can someone please recommend a beach. We are looking for a beautiful sandy beach with walk in snorkeling that isn't overly crowded. We bring our own snorkels so we don't need to rent. We really wanted to go to Rum Point but an hour drive each way is too long. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks! vijmas Posted January 29, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2008 I dont think they go together. There is good snorkeling just off the cruise terminal.
Dlynn Posted January 29, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted January 29, 2008 Thanks! Maybe we will just stick with a snorkel tour.
drew sailbum Posted January 29, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 29, 2008 I dont think they go together. There is good snorkeling just off the cruise terminal. Correct. Sand gets moved around by waves, and would smother coral in shallow water near shore. Only if there is an offshore reef or lagoon does coral stand a chance in shallow water. But without a sand beach, coral can more easilt thrive in shallow water. That said, Rum Point offers the best combination of the two in Grand Cayman. The reef for snorkelling is in shallow water, but 250 yards or so from shore.
ColleenThomas Posted January 30, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 30, 2008 I have been told Cemetery Beach offers both.....am I right???
nolaAlive Posted January 30, 2008 #6 Share Posted January 30, 2008 Cemetery does offer both, but no facilities. In addition to a snorkel, you would also have to bring a mask, fins and any food/beverages you desired.

karena1 Posted February 1, 2008 #8 Share Posted February 1, 2008 There are lot of good spots just off the cruise terminal. u can actuallt walk to it. We have been to the snorkel place by the dive shop by the terminal. We walked down the steps into the water and swam about 100ft out. This time we were considering go to Cemetary. Which do you think is better?
