Spiril this weekend - Roatan excursion canceled - need suggestions

Just received an email tonight that our planned excursion in Roatan is canceled, presumably due to the ship's scheduled late arrival. Just checked the NCL website figuring that with the short stop, it would be best to book through the cruise line, but there is nothing left.

So, looks like we'll be going private. Does anyone have any suggestions? Hubby and I really were looking forward to snorkeling, but time for that will be quite limited, so we'd love something that would let us get that in and then have a gorgeous spot to watch the sunset.

Walk through the gate and make a right. Walk about 100 yards down the crowded little street and make a right at the pier. There is a ferry that will take you to Fins and Flippers on the private island that's right infront of the cruise ship. The cost is about $25. There is beautiful snorkeling, a beautiful little beach, pool and a patio with good snacks and good prices on drinks. Since you can get there in 10 minutes, you can take advantage of the hour or so of good light to snorkel. Then relax on the patio or the beach as it gets dark before you have to return to the ship. We did this and were very impressed.

If you do this, beware of the coral. It's tricky getting going in the water and sometimes hard to avoid. We both got a few cuts being as careful as we could be. I don't recommend using flippers. It's too easy to harm the coral. While we were there there was one jerk from the ship that kept walking all over it. He had flippers on and didn't seem to give a hoot about the damage he was causing. Water shoes would be just right.

We are on the Spirit 2/10 out of NOLA and our Dolphin encounter was cancelled. I contacted Victor Bodden (Boddentours.com) and he said that they have been doing shorter tours for the Spirit for about a month now. He will customize your time however you want and depending on how many people you have it is $20 to $35 pp for a guide and car. He said that if we get off the ship quickly we would have time to go to the zipline see some baby monkeys at Victor's house and then get to the West End for a nice sunset and drinks or dinner. The guide remains with you and eventually gets you back to the ship in plenty of time to sail. They have had lots of good feedback on these boards and are very quick to respond to emails. Good luck with your cruise and post a review when you get back!
