Good eats, North Shore O'ahu or Pearl Harbour area?

Okay, I need to know of a good restaurant for lunch after visiting Pearl Harbour. Is there something good and inexpensive near there or how about in Haleiwa. We will be headed that way after our Pearl Harbour tour. Thank you much...Marilyn

While I have never been, many people here on base recommend Dixie Grill which is about a mile to a mile and a 1/4 from the memorial heading west away from Honolulu.
It is on the right and I think it is the first place you come to....
But further up the road by another mile and you will hit every major department store, restaurant etc you can imagine.

So from the Arizona, take a left onto Kamehameha highway. The road splits but stay to the left on KAM highway toward Pearl City and you will see Dixie on the right just after the highway ramp entering 99.
two stop lights up is Pearlridge center where there is shopping/eating including chili's, California Pizza Kitchen, Denny's and my local favorite place of all time....Zippys.

Thanks SueBee,If we are not ravenous by the time we finish Pearl Harbor is it worth it for us to hold off and eat in Haleiwa? One of my guidebooks mentions Cholo's and Kua Aina Sandwich in Haleiwa as cheap, good eats. Do you recommend either of these? Also, what is Zippys? Thanks again Marilyn

I am not very familiar with the North Shore as we've been once and ate at KFC....But I have heard of Kua Aina also.

Zippy's is everywhere. Its a big chain here. It is very casual and cheap. If you want fancy, its not the place to go. They have lunch plates which are a local thing. A lunch plate consists of 2 scoops of white rice, 2 scoops of macaroni salad, and some kind of meat or fish. You usually can trade the rice or mac salad for fries or salad. The plates are big enough for an adult and child to share and they cost around $5. Zippys also has great chili, saimin, and a very large assortment of local foods. (Just the other day I had a bean burrito with chili poured over it...it was so good!) You could take the entire family and everyone would be happy. We go to zippys when we are out on a family day because we know our kids will eat well and it will be cheaper than McDonalds. In a 20 minute drive from here, we pass about 6 zippys!

You can also take out from zippys and eat on the beach, for another idea.

I HIGHLY recommend Kua Aina in Haleiwa. Fantastic hamburgers ... and for those that don't eat meat, their mahimahi sandwich is equally good. Fries are OK.
