clackey Posted February 1, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 1, 2008 Hi,,,,we'll Be In Belize On 4/12 Aboard The Granduer Of The Sea. Has Anyone Just Gone To The Village And Signed Up There For A Snorkel To Bannister Island Or Caulker Caye? We'll Be In Port From 7 To 4 On That Day. There are several tours available at the tender dock. We booked with Fab Tours and went to Bannister. We took their reef snorkel. Nice trip and cost 30% less than ship tour. The island is gorgeous, lots of chairs, clean restrooms and plenty of food and drink. Everyone is afraid of missing the ship when on an independent tour. If you do your research and stick with the companies on these boards there is little chance of that happening. I'm not saying that it can't happen, (Murphy's Law plagues us all), but these companies don't need any bad reviews. They will do their best to make your trip a good experience. scuba214 Posted February 2, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 2, 2008 Clackey, We will be in Belize on Feb. 14th. there are 2 other ships with us that day. Do you think I can book a tour on the pier and if so what time did you tender over and when did your tour leave? Did they take you to Bannister Island? driftwood Posted February 2, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 2, 2008 . . . which runs down the entire length of the Bay of Honduras. Only licensed tour guides are supposed to take you there, and you can't legally go there without a licensed tour guide. The math is very simple. Caye Caulker is essentially out of your way if you want to snorkel, as are any of the northern cayes, and you will waste time and money going there. If you take the tender to the dock at Belize City you will have plenty of offers, but it makes more sense to go straight from the ship to your dive boat for any snorkel excursion--the dive boat can easily intercept your ship when the excursion is over. So you might end up with a substantially longer snorkeling day, and much less dickering and doodling around.

If memory serves we tendered in around 9:00 and the tour didn't leave until 10:00 or 10:30. They stop at Bannister Island and drop off anyone not wanting to take the snorkel trip and then go out to the reef. Then they take you back to the island for some beach time. You shouldn't have any trouble booking at the dock.
scuba214 Posted February 5, 2008 #6 Share Posted February 5, 2008 Thanks for the reply Clackey. I emailed Fab Tours and they now go to Spanish Caye instead of Bannister Island. I'm sure we can make it to the pier by 9:30. Now I won't worry about waiting to book until we get there! Thanks:D
