Shuttle from Miami to FLL Hotel

Hello,

 

I'm planning for a cruise in March 2009 (how many days away is this? Too many) and am debating weather to go from Chicago to Miami and shuttle over, or Chicago to Fort Lauderdale. Either way, I'm going to a Fort Lauderdale hotel.

 

Is there a big enough price difference to warrant stopping in MIA on the way to FLL?

 

There will be at least 4 adults and two children.

 

Does FLL require car seats in shuttles? I read on the Super Shuttle website some cities require it. We went to MIA port from a MIA hotel and we didn't need a car seat.
