poohbear Posted February 10, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 10, 2008 Since 9/11 we have not used locks on our luggage, and never had a problem. Do we have to lock luggage for the cruise. I remember reading somewhere that we should, and if so where do we get TSA approved locks? Thanks

Thanks I'm sure they have them in the luggage departments of major dept stores, AAA sells them, and they are easily found on line. MaryZ Posted February 10, 2008 #6 Share Posted February 10, 2008 I'd completely disregard the long packing list. Many of the things that are listed you can't carry on. too much stuff for a 7 day cruise. And not enough cash. Travellers checks are passe' , useless. there is absolutely no reason to carry both a passport and a birth certificate. I'd hate to have to travel with that person. I was reading the list looking for the kitchen sink :p

spartygrad95 Posted February 10, 2008 #8 Share Posted February 10, 2008 wow, that list is extensive and exhausting. I save space by wearing all my contraceptives aboard.
HvacTstatGuy Posted February 10, 2008 #9 Share Posted February 10, 2008 We don't use locks but use " nylon electrical TyWraps". You can find them at Staples. We then keep in an outside pocket a small pair of nail clippers to cut them off. If TSA needs to open they just cut them off and are alot cheaper than TSA approved locks. Just remember to pack extra for the ride home!

ladycaveat Posted February 11, 2008 #13 Share Posted February 11, 2008 I sort of kind of think that packing list was for you to check off things you wanted to take with you. I'm sure it wasn't meant for anyone to take everything on the list. Were one to take everything on that list and all the other lists . . . you'd need a U-Hall truck to transport it . . . . :p

Were one to take everything on that list and all the other lists . . . you'd need a U-Hall truck to transport it . . . . :p Actually, i think it was considered a good list for one to take it all... Why else specify each suitcase.....? Something was left off though: He forgot suitcase #4 for DW's shoes........

Travellers checks are passe' , useless.there is absolutely no reason to carry both a passport and a birth certificate. I'd hate to have to travel with that person. I was reading the list looking for the kitchen sink :p The list is titled 'THE ULTIMATE PACKING LIST' for a reason. It includes all possible items. Of course you would not pack it all but it gives you a list to work from. I have used it many times (including and eliminating as needed) and find I usually end up with all that I need. Some things are not needed on a cruise but may come in handy for other trips and vice versa. I also posted other links and I am sure that as the OP reads through the answers they will find many items to be added or eliminated as their unique needs are considered. To just say 'disregard the long packing list' is very narrow-minded. Let them be the judge of what is handy, needed, or helpful. If you have something to add that may be helpful, do so. I was reading the list looking for the kitchen sink :p I surely don't want to be travelling with all of the cash I need on hand for my week long vacation. Especially considering the Purser's desk onboard will cash Traveller's Checks for no charge. And if they get lost or stolen, I still get my cash back...if you lose cash, you're just S.O.L. Makes sense to me. I'm with everyone else on that packing list (and all the others that are circulating here on CC)...I'm a "bring it just in case" person and still only bring 3% of that list.
