MidtheNight Posted May 25, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 25, 2004 Spleen- Don't forget about the NCL Wind doing the round trip out of Honolulu...no gambling as it originates and returns to a Hawaiian port. Not under the NCL America flag...just under the NCL flag. We're not huge gamblers but like we have every year in the past we saved up our change every day for a year and put it away...now I'm just bummed because we accumulated over $730 this year for "gambling money"...that's a record for us. Oh well, just gonna have to buy more Hawaiian coffee, macadamia nuts, souvenirs, and the like. Taters Posted May 26, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 26, 2004 is that the ship I will be on, the Island Princess, which will be sailing round trip from Los Angeles to Hawaii with a 1 hour stop in Ensenada on the way back, that we can gamble during the days we are in Hawaii?... And this is because we are not cruising round trip from a Hawaiian port? I've always just assumed that we couldn't gamble AT ALL while in Hawaiian waters. Sorry if I sound like a dunce, but this whole Hawaii/gambling issue is a bit confusing. Thanks! spleen93 Posted May 26, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 26, 2004 The casino should open even in Hawaiian waters once you're off shore (3 miles?) Something like that. You may want to confirm with Princess however. bug_dan Posted May 26, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 26, 2004 When we were on the Infinity, the Casino opened about 1/2 hour after sailing departure, same was true of the on board shops. Just a guess but I imagine when NCL first started cruising the Hawaiian Islands with the Wind and the Star, since American Hawaii's Independence and Patriot were still operating, they passed the law forbidding gambling on ships operating out of Hawaiian Ports to eliminate unfair competition. Also for whatever reason Hawaii seems to be very anti-gambling. All that is just conjecture on my part. To be honest, I thought International waters were 12 miles off shore, not sure where that would be in Hawaiian waters Dan Infinity Hawaii 11/14/2004 [This message was edited by bug_dan on 05-26-04 at 08:37 PM.]
