Formal wear for 8 y.o. boy on RCL ? (m)

My little guy only has dress shirts and nice pants. Will this suffice? He will not wear a jacket and tie (and this is not a battle I choose to fight).

Yes, that will be fine. You are right not to battle the clothes situation. It is not worth it. He will probably want to change shortly after dinner, if you decide to send him to a kids club. Have a great cruise.

And for formal night(s) the Adventure Ocean program usually do a "dining with the counselors" dinner (just be sure to sign up at AO ahead of time - it is a popular option with the kids!)

I agree. When my son was 9 we went on RCCL and we rented him a tux becuase he wanted to wear one too.. He was the ONLY child on board to have one. But I can tell you the other boys his age at our table had on polo shirts and khakis and no one blinked an eye. It isnt the QE2 or Silver seas.. it is a family cruise line!! AS long as they are neat and clean.. I dont think anyone will care. (Well neat and clean for the first 10 minutes anyway!!!!)
