Mangrove excursion - kayaks - need advice...

Do do the kayak excursion do you have to be experienced?? My DH thinks we will come back with one less kid if we try and do this with 3 boys (ages 14, 12 and 11) - I think he is being overly dramatic but I figured I'd better ask for opinions!

Anybody done this - what do you all think??
