Pharmacy in Belize?

Pharmacy Express in the Belize Tourism Village is the place to go. The pharmacist is from Louisiana and used to be a Wal-Mart pharmacist. I went there this 9/26/04 cruise and picked up some dermatology products (retin A) not covered by insurance that normally sells for $41 there for 3 for $8 per tube (.05%). They will also mail you what you need if you contact them. Here is the contact info:

phone: 011 501 22 4242

email: medimeds@btl.net

Here is a link to a map of the Tourism Village and the Pharmacy Express is #18:

Now, the Retin A they sell at Pharmacy Express does not have a moisturizer in it like the Renova prescripton I get here in the US does but the sunscreen I use seems to do the trick. You apply the Retin A sparingly (a little goes a long way every morning or every night at bedtime). I do it in the morning and apply it to my face and neck and collar bone area. I wait a few minutes and then apply 50 sunscreen to those areas and to my arms and hands. Then I fix my hair, letting the sunscreen dry. I next apply foundation, etc.

My dermatologist also gave me a Rx for Tri-Luma cream to apply every night at bedtime for 8 weeks on the sun/age spots only, which has helped as well.

I know a little about naproxen sodium, too. I have had migraine for 25+ years and my neurologist prescribes 550mg as a booster to my triptans when I get an acute attack. Naproxen is an anti inflammatory often used by orthopaedic specialists and sports injury doctors. Aleve is one over the counter brand and you can also get generic naproxen in most grocery stores for less than Aleve. Most of the generic forms I have seen come in 220 mg and suggest that you take one tablet and if it does not work in a couple of hours, try a second one. But not to take more than 2 in a so many hour period of time. Also, do not take it on an empty stomach. But if you are having a really bad headache, I suggest you just start out taking two 220 mg tabs of the generic brand. And if you are not normally a caffein drinker, have a cup of strong coffee, some tea, or a coke, but not with the naproxen. Take that with a big glass of room temperature water. Drink lots of water every day. Dehydration can lead to headaches, too. Apply ice pack to the area that hurts. Try to lie down in a quiet, dark room. If you have a relaxation or biofeedback tape, listen to it to get your muscles to relax, especially the ones in your head, neck and shoulders. Well, this is probably more info than you wanted to know, so take what you need and leave the rest. If you need any headache info, a good site is headaches.org or http://headaches.about.com/

When ppl say apply the retinA aparingly, they arent kidding. When I first got this, I thought yeah right, more is surely better. Ummmm..WRONG. It BURNED my face. My face felt like leather, stung like he** and was like a BAD sunburn. I couldn't put anything on it to make it better because no matter what I put on it STUNG so bad. THEN it got SUPER dry and peeled off. NOT good, it was a nightmare. So when they say sparingly, it means not much more than the size of the end of a Qtip. Then just do a good job of spreading it out. My DR also said to wash face b4 bed, wait 20 minutes and THEN apply it. He said to do it at night because many moisturizers and makeups will ball up when applied over it. The generic name for retin A is Tretinoin Cream, USP. 0.1% is what I have. Oh yeah, and if you find a nice derm like mine who will tell your insurance company he is prescribing it to you for acne (not aging or sundamage) many insurances DO cover it. Mine did...;) :)

Oh no no! Put it all over, face and neck. It is great stuff! From the way my dr described it, it helps correct old sun damage. Plus I guess as we age our skin loses collagen, but this all but slows or stops collagen loss. This is by far the best stuff I have EVER used. You just have to stick with it. BUT be prepared, even when using the correct amount, there may be some irritation at first. It will go away after your skin gets used to it. If it seems REALLY irritated either use less or switch to every other day for a while. OH one more thing, I saw it said b4, be sure to use LOTS of sunscreen while on this. Also, you can't have any facial waxing done while using this. You may rip skin off:eek: , and cause permanant scarring. Tweezing is okay though. If after a while it doesn't help with your melasma, you may want to talk to a dern about using it combo with a bleaching cream. This is all according to what my Derm told me and what I experienced, but wouldn't hurt to seek professional advice, just incase. HTH!!:)
