I've never sailed Princess before - is this a good location?

Depends on what you think is a "good' location. Personally, I would say yes. You are just steps away from the adult terrace pool and one deck down from the Horizon Court Buffet. I haven't read complaints about this location from the buffet.

It is a great location, as stated just go out the aft doors and you are at the Terrace Pool and just below the Horizon Court. :)

Is the only way to access the Terrace pool via the passageway that's in front of that cabin? Also, are there stairs in the pool area leading up to the buffet?

No, there are other ways to access the terrace pool from outside decks. And yes there are stairs at the pool area leading up to the buffet.
