Ocean View Staterooms Obstructed View?

We will be sailing on the Star Princess to Alaska on June 8.

We are on the deck with "ocean view" staterooms (i.e. no

balconies but windows instead), which is the Plaza deck. (there

is only one lower deck, the Gala, which has no staterooms).

On the Princess website at

http://www.princess.com/learn/ships/tp/deck_plans/tp_plaza.html

is a visual description of the Plaza deck. In that description,

the oceanview rooms are category EE (color coded yellow) and

D (color coded lavender). Clicking on the D or EE shows an

identical description, saying that categories E-HH have

partially or fully obstructed views. (It turns out that our

rooms are category D on the starboard side).

I've attached a photo of the Star Princess on the starboard side.

What puzzles me is that when I look at this picture,

it doesn't appear that any of the windows on the Plaza deck

are near any obstructions at all. The lifeboats are several

decks higher. Why does the Princess site state that there are

obstructions for the ocean view rooms on the Plaza deck?

WE had a Plaza deck room on Grand Princess (Star's sister ship) that was considered "obstructed". The only problem we could see was that the bed and/or lamp table inside the cabin was positioned directly in front of the window, as opposed to other outside cabins we have had where the bed is away from the window and one can stand at the window to look out.

Our room was in a Queen configuration, so we had to kneel on the bed to be close to the window to gaze at he sea. Not a big deal for us, but some might object...

I agree with the poster above. We had an outside room on the Star to Alaska about 5 years ago and our room was exactly like they described. Bed was directly under the window, so we had to kneel on the bed to see out. Not a big deal to us either.

Correct, E through HH have obstructed view. You are in D... they don't have obstructions. (Room categories start from A and go down.... D is above E :)

Because they are using the same "room picture" for all ocean view cabins on all decks....... so they put the cavet in to make sure if you are looking at those noted categories that they are obstructed. ;)

It appears from the first replies that the obstructions refer to what is inside the room, not covering the outside window in some way. I had assumed that an obstruction would be on the outside (such as a lifeboat) but I didn't see any outside obstructions in the starboard picture. So it must be that the EE staterooms on the Plaza deck have a different layout with a bed or something in front of the window. Of course, the obstruction of sea spray on the outside, or water vapor (human induced or otherwise) can also add to view problems.
