Yes I know people have posted this question before.. But I didn't have any luck looking it up or finding it. But here is the question. We will be sailing on Carnival Splendor in Dec.

I know there's a way you can use another card other then your sail and sign card to get in to the safe and for locking it. But I don't know if you can use a credit card or one those cheap calling cards that you can get at the store. What works better?

Any card with a Magnetic strip behind it will work, We use our Drivers License since we have to leave the ship with it.

We always save a expired credit card and bring that with us...it works great and you don't have to worry if you lose it. Never tried a phone card.....doubt if that would work.....buy a gift card for a store like Best Buy and use it all up then take that with you that will work too.;)

We have always used store loyalty cards. They have them at different grocery or dug stores here. All have worked great.

We used an expired credit card to get in and out of our safe - and it worked great for us. I would not use a card that you want to use for regular purposes again.

ditto. I use my old debit card from before the bank changed hands. I am the only one who access to the safe unless we are all in the cabin.

I am sorry, but I don't understand something. I keep reading that everyone isn't using their S&S card to open their safe, but WHY is everyone not using S&S card to open their safe? If your S&S card becomes demagnatized why not just get a new one? Apparantly I must of missed the reason why no one uses their S&S card, so if Anyone can clue me in, it would be greatly appreciated!

Most stores have gift cards in a kiosk near the check out counters to be loaded with money. I just picked one up and used it to open & close the safe. Never has money on it to be used up.:):) Worked every time.

That's what we do too, just punch a hole in it like they do in the casino and hang it off the same lanyard...Wal-Mart has some cute ones, so does Target, and they're FREE.

Because it's a majr pain in the arse...and you still have to get the purser come to open the safe...HUGE hassle. IMHO more trouble than it's worth.

So help me out...never used the safe before....

Whatever card I use to open the safe is the one that opens it while we are there?? What keeps someone from just using another kind of magnetic card to open it????

Actually it's whatever card you lock it with is the one that opens it. You can use different cards through out the cruise just remember which one you lock it with, b/c that's the one that will open it. That and the card the purser has.

that is a good question. Often wondered myself till my DD tried to open it with another card. By accident of course. But it did not work. Our battery went out on a safe, and we had to wait for them to come and fix it.
