Abbreviations? TA and PVP

ms simba

Recommended Posts

I did a search on Ask a Cruise question for "Abbreviations" but couldn't find an answer to my question (general search down).

What is the difference between a TA and a PVP? Is the Carnival person that is helping you out a PVP?

Thanks for the link to the Acronym website. I saved it for future reference.

However, it still sounds to me that a TA and a PVP could be one, and the same, person. What is the difference (if any?)

Is the Carnival person that is helping you out a PVP? Do people on this board use PVP for a Carnival person and TA exclusively for a travel agent (not a Carnival person)?

Hi - a TA (which can stand for travel agent or agency) is independent of any cruise line. Actually they can arrange any sort of travel on any mode of transportation. The agency receives a commission from the cruise line and the agent receives a percentage of that.

PVP is a Carnival term for their "in-house" agents that you can book Carnival cruises with - they are employees of Carnival. Other cruise lines have different names for them like Personal Cruise Consultant on Holland America.
