Altun Ha Mayan Site & River Wallace?

Hi, were going on Carnival Legend in November, and we are thinking of taking this tour. Has anyone taken it before, and if so, what did you think? And how much was it? We were supposed to take a similar tour, Lamanai ruins and river tour with RCCL last November, but the ship never made it to Belize (medical emergency, boat turned back to Cozumel). This is the closest to that tour, Carnival offers. I don't want to go with a private operator for this, as the travel distance is long. But was wondering others opinions?

Thanks in Advance

We have just booked this excursion for our Legend cruise in April. I heard from a friend that was just on the Legend that Altun Ha was a great excursion but I don't think they did the river tour as well.

I'm anxious to see what anybody else has to say, otherwise I will let you know when we get back in a few weeks.

We were on the Legend in December and took to River and ruin tour. I can't remember how much it was but it was worth every penny. We did the river part first (half the group goes on the river while the other half does the ruins, then switch at the lunch point). We saw monkeys, crocs, iguanas, and different birds on the river tour. Very relaxing and beautiful. Then we stopped at a resort and had authentic Belizian food. Roasted chicken with red beans and rice. It was very good and my fiancee loved it. We boarded a tour bus and drove to the ruins. My fiancee got to climb one of them and took pics (I smashed my foot two days before our trip). They were amazing.

I learned a lesson in not booking private tours for tours more than 1/2 hour away from the ship. A family took a private tour to the ruins and there van broke down. Their ship was due to leave in 30 minutes and they were stuck. They hitched a ride on the floor of our bus. They go back an hour after the ship was sposed to leave and I don't know if they made it or not. If you are on a ship cruise and this happens, they hold the ship. If on a private tour you are out of luck and need to find a plane ride to the next port or home....hope they had their passports on them and not in the ship's safe

This tour sounds exactly what we are looking for. Really similar to the one RCCL offered. I will book through the boat, as I am worried about the time frame. Would hate to miss the boat. I think this sounds like a nice day. We are doing alot of snorkeling at our other ports, so this will be a nice break from that. Although, the Carnival book, does not say the tour includes lunch. I know the Lamanai river/ruin tour RCCL has does. Thanks again, for the info.
