Embassy Suites Fort Lauderdale?

For anyone who has stayed at the Embassy Suites in Fort Lauderdale....

Are the rooms clean? Are they large enough to add a rollaway in addition to two beds and a sofa sleeper? Do they have a shuttle pick up at the airport? Can you walk to the beach from the hotel? Is there shopping (for bottled water and all those incidentals we forget to pack) and restaurants nearby?

Looking for a hotel for one night pre-cruise for four adults that is relatively close to the Port. Thanks for your help.

I've stayed at the Embassy Suites on 17th street if that is the one you are asking about.

Rooms clean: Yes

Roll away: Ours was a one bedroom with living room. I do think sofa did make into bed.

Shuttle: No you are on your own.

Beach: Little far to walk

Shopping: Very nice open mall right behind with lots of shops

Restaurants: Yes. Very close. maybe google restaurants on 17th street and see what shows up. We have been to Outback, and Biminy Boat yard.

  • 1 month later...

We've booked this hotel for our 3 night "precruise" stay and have a few questions concerning the area...

Is this area safe to walk at night?

What neat things are there to do...close by?

What's the best restaurants in this area for dinners?

Is a Sun Trolley stop close by?

Can excursions/tours be booked at the hotel? ...

We'd like to do some sightseeing as this will be our first time in Ft Lauderdale.

Thanks in advance for any information you can share with us.

Pat :)

Just spent 2 nights there, 4/18 & 19.

-Rooms are clean and recently renovated, comfortable bedding, nice pool

-Adding a rollaway in addition to the 2 beds and sleep sofa would be tight but if you slide dining table and 4 chairs over to wall and fold rollaway down only at night it might work(**NOTE if sleeping in the sleep sofa area you do hear the waterfalls which run in the atrium area of the hotel so bring earplugs or sound sleepers as my daughter a light sleeper found it loud)

- take Suntrolley to Ft. Lauderdale beach for .50cents pp each way(kids were free), only a ten minute ride, stops right on corner by hotel

- Large Publix(for groceries) shopping center just behind hotel in Harbor shops, also a nail place, a grill, a good Italian place(Angelo's) got take out, a Carvel, 5 minute walk at most(well lit w/sidewalks)

- Also, walk in other direction outside hotel left onto Cordova about 2 blocks to Southport Raw Bar........real local place w/good sandwiches, old bay shrimp, etc....nice friendly bar type atmosphere....also inexpensive.

- Walk straight down 17th on left is a Cold Stone creamery for any ice cream lovers:)

- No shuttle but if you call the concierge at hotel from airport when you arrive they will send shuttle over and charge you $7.00per person which you pay direct to driver (van was Double D transportation).....we called and he was there in minutes - 5 of us w/7 pieces of luggage & carryons for $35.00

Pat -

Read my other post above.

Concierge at hotel can book excursions for you. We headed to the Carrie B Tours dock on our own and took an 11am sightseeing cruise up the New River - great narrated tour of cruiseport, millionaire row houses, yacht areas, historic home(Stranahan House) and lots of good stories from the captain. Nice way to see FL by water! We then got off the Carrie B and walked to Cheesecake Factory for lunch within walking distance from the dock on Las Olas Blvd. (filled w/nice shops), from there took cab back up to Ft Lauderdale beach for souvenir shopping & photos and then onto the Sun Trolley back to Embassy Suites - great day. Our first time there too - DH, myself & kids(11,9,6) we all loved FL:)
