NCL Spirit disney shore excursion question

HI- My husband and I are cruising NCL Spirit in July and will be taking our two sons (4 & 3) to Disney from Port Canaveral. Would love some advice from cruisers who have done Disney (Magic Kingdom) from this port. Should we do Disney on our own? Should we book the excursion through the cruise? Will be in Port Canaveral from 1PM until 10 PM. Any tips from other parents would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I cannot completely answer your questions, since I too am going on NCL Spirit, but in April. But I have done some research. NCL is charging $159 per person for the transfer and Disney tickets. But only charging $62 for just the transfer. That is $97 for Disney tickets, when DisneyWorld only charges $71 per adult. So I would definitely recommend buying the tickets at DisneyWorld or online ahead of time.

As for the transfer, they will charge you $62 pp, including the kids. I called NCL shore excursions today, since I have a 2 year old and they still will charge for her. That $248 for your family to transfer there. I am thinking of renting a car from either Enterprise or Avis. It's about $30-$40 for the day (more if you need to rent carseats for the kids). I called both places and they said they pick you up at the pier. Avis told me they pick up every 15-25 minutes. When you drop off the car, you will have to take a cab back to the pier, but they give you a business card for a cab company, but it's common so sometimes cabs are just waiting at the rental car place at night. It's 4 miles away from the rental car place to the pier (maybe $15). It's an hour drive to Disney parks from the pier. When I am going the Magic Kingdom is open until 9pm.

I have to discuss the options with my husband, but I'm leaning towards renting a car, since it's so much cheaper. However, it's more of a hassel than taking the bus, since I think the shore excursions get off the boat first, and we might have to wait for the transfer to the car rental place, which means less time at Disney. Plus organizing the cab, etc, and having to keep to a schedule so we aren't left at the pier. If we do rent a car, we'll leave Disney around 7:30 or so, to give enough time for transfers, since the boat leaves at 10pm. I hope this helps.
