Which bed to use? Upper or Lower

We are looking at a room for 3 people that has a king bed, convertible couch and upper bed. Which one would you use for the 3rd person the upper bed or the couch? Do the room stewards automatically make one up or do you have to tell them which one you want to use?

Are the upper beds safe for a 4 year old???

I would not put a very young child in them, it is hard to get down from, especially in the dark if they needed to go potty in the middle of the night. I saw where someone who used them also kept a flashlight handy just in case.

When our kids were 4 and 5 we never had a problem. The never fell from them

and the kids seem to be able to get off the bunks with no problems. Now

getting up and down for adults is another issue. But it can be done for someone who is no longer 20 something.
