packercruising Posted March 24, 2008 #76 Share Posted March 24, 2008 During one cruise -the dining room was my Muster Station! :D That's how it was for us on the Jewel last year. I agree with cusyl, a disguise might make it worse. Muster drills are a right of passage. Everybody is in the same boat:rolleyes: so to speak and they can be a very good way to meet your neighbors. Their worrys might be much ado about nothing, IMO and could serve to lesson their enjoyment of the overall cruise experience which includes looking forward to it in the first place!:)
Amlee Posted March 24, 2008 #77 Share Posted March 24, 2008 OP if your friends have a illness, they can ask for special permission to not attend the drill. Have them bring a detailed note from the doctor as to why they can't attend, and then present it to guest relations before the drill. On a cruise a while back, I witnessed a women who did just that for her mother. It ended up, we were on the same deck not far from each other. A few hours later I walked by and over heard the daughter talking to the cabin steward about being given special permission to miss the drill. I wear a metal leg brace on my left leg, which makes me slower than others and climbing stairs hard. So I sit in the HC area during a drill. Last week on the Celebrity Summit, when the other pax were being escorted out on deck. We were asked to stay seated. After the other pax had cleared out, we were told we could return to our cabins. I have NEVER seen or heard of this being done. But I must say it was GREAT! I wish more ships would do this.
packercruising Posted March 24, 2008 #78 Share Posted March 24, 2008 The illness is a separate issue. The reason stated for not going for muster is to not run into relatives in order to surprise them later. My suggestion would be to surprise them at dinner before the cruise so they can enjoy the anticipation of it as well. But we aren't Dear Abby here and don't have all the details. prwjr Posted March 24, 2008 #79 Share Posted March 24, 2008 If there are 10 cabins and 24 ppl involved in the gathering there would certainly be the possibility of anyone of the 24 members of the party running into each other well before the Muster Drill. It may be in the parking lot at the port entrance, the check in counter, the lido deck, etc. It sounds like a nice idea...but trying to make it happen will be a gamble that I hope works out for you. Good luck and enjoy your trip...no matter what. Expect the worst and you won't be disappointed!!!
