Jade's Fire Posted March 20, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 20, 2008 Hi everyone, Do any fellow Canadians know if we are allowed to bring back Hawaiian pineapple and leis? Thanks in advance for your help.
Putterdude Posted March 20, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 20, 2008 I believe that you can, you are only prevented from bringing in plants that are diseased or have the soil attached to roots. Pineapples, I have never brought one in personally but I have seen them being brought in by others. We don't grow pineapples in Canada (except in Victoria of course) so there should be no problem. But if you have any doubts than call customs to be sure.
Sally Forth Posted March 20, 2008 #3 Share Posted March 20, 2008 Gotta tell you, though, that pineapples are on sale this week 2/$5 at Safeways in the Lower Mainland. They might not be as sweet (although the one I just bought was delicious), but certainly cheaper and easier to buy. The reason I mention it is that my sisters and I kept thinking on our recent trip that the pineapples seemed a bit pricey compared to at home. Putterdude Posted March 21, 2008 #4 Share Posted March 21, 2008 I wouldn't disagree with Sally F. but there can be a huge difference in pineappples much as there is in any fruit or produce. As an example, I have a friend and neighbour in AZ who is produce broker in the LA area and he came over with a pineapple recently that a grower in Hawaii had sent him some samples of. I have to tell you that I have never had a pineapple as jucy or as sweet as that one.
