Destiny--cruisers beware

I thought I would have a chance to vent without hostility but have found most of you to be narrow minded, nasty people without an ounce of human kindness.

For the record, I would like to correct my original statement that this was the "worst experience of my life" to the "worst vacation".

I suspect I'm going to regret entering this discussion.

"Worst experience of my life", "without an ounce of human kindness"

In a forum like this, when you vent with such negativity and with such extremity it invites the same in return. That's just the way it is.

Venting is best shared with friends over coffee (or rum;) ) in my experience, and not in public forums like message boards with complete strangers. That's not the fault of the message board or the participants, by the way. It's just a misjudgement on your part.

Your reponse is very thoughtful and you made some good points. I did research every port and chose not to buy Carnival excursions thinking it would be easy to find alternatives once we were there. This didn't really happen but I don't blame Carnival for that--it was my igonorance regarding how quickly you have to take action at each port if you want to get the most out of it. As for the sarcastic response regarding the cruiseline and the ports wanting to make as much money as they can--it's just too bad it can't be a bit more reasonable. We were just not able to justify $75 to $100 per person per day for 6 days and were not able to find alternative at several ports. We did take the bus to Nelson's Dock in Antigua and did a lot of walking which is fine. Just surprised at the price of things.

We are pretty independent travelers, so you are all correct that cruising is not for us. Definitely not a 4-week Eurail trip to Europe or a driving experience in Spain. But we tried it and I am glad we did. However, none of this excuses the lack of good customer service we experienced on the Destiny. Those of you who have not had problems are unable to say whether the customer service was adequate or not. I also don't know what it is like on other Carnival ships--but the Destiny was not a good experience.

Cruising in not for everyone. I know that had we experienced some of what you did on our first cruise we probably would not have 5 under our belt now. We have sailed the Destiny out of Puerto Rico, years ago and it was great. We have found now that a cruise is what we make of it. I did the spa on our first two cruises and will not ever step another foot into the spas on the ship. For what they want I can get 3 massages at home for the price. We do our home work for our excursions. As far as stuff to do on the ship, Dh enjoys the casino and I enjoy just sitting on the deck with my IPOD and book, or the same on my balcony.

YOU can read the same kind of dissapointment on all of the boards, you might want try RCL and I hope for you it makes a difference. Good luck if yuo decide to try it again.
