meherio Posted March 29, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 29, 2008 Ia orana The Lagoonarium of moorea is now closed after some dispute between the land owner and the operator of the Lagoonarium finished with the expulsion of the operator of the Lagoonarium ( after 7 yerears of legal disputes). No word yet as for any possible other operator for what was a great place to visit on Moorea. meherio
Pacific Sandy Posted March 29, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 29, 2008 Thanks for letting us know, Meherio. Just wondering, what is happening with the Club Med on Moorea? Sandra
meherio Posted March 30, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted March 30, 2008 Ia orana This must be the biggest real estate mess on earth, the village closed around Sept 11, 2001, at that stage the Club Med company decided to upgrade the property to a 4 trident standard. ( I am some how also in the thinking that the closure could have forced the hand of the local government to do something to help a-la Renaissance cruise) The only problem came from the 20 or so land owners who can not and apparently will not agree on any type of deal. The big losers are the few families agreable to a deal, the shops of le petit village, and of course those who have enjoyed in the past this idyllic location with the motus right across the lagoon.( Was one of those 28 years ago!). The location had open at some point as a Bed and breakfst called CLUB BED ( you can't invent that one unless you have a very bad head cold!) that's the news so far Meherio
trixie54 Posted March 31, 2008 #4 Share Posted March 31, 2008 We were just at that lagoonarium 2 weeks ago, & after only 10 mins. in the water our Sofitel guide hurried us out of the water & off the island, after he was almost roughed up by some guys there. He told us it was an argument between his boss & the lagoonarium boss. We were just mystified & upset, but this sheds some light on our missed experience.
