Airport Distances?? Help.

We found cheap airfare for our cruise i think...

Will it work to fly into Fort Lauderdale and then take a cab to the Miami port? Is there transportation?

 

Then we are leaving from Palm Beach at 11:40 am. They are all direct non stop flights to the airport near our house...

 

Basically ... is it easy to get to and from the port of miami from palm beach and lauderdale?

You should be ok from Ft. Lauderdale to Miami. There are options that are not too expensive from the Ft. Lauderdale Airport to Miami (just check the airport website or check out the East Coast Homeport message board on cruise critic).

 

Your return trip could be a challenge. Keep in mind that you might not be able to get off the ship until mid-morning (the earliest time even possible is usually around 8 am, but might be later depending on customs, how many ships are in port, etc.). You will then need to get your luggage and a shuttle or cab. West Palm Beach Airport is nearly 70 miles from the Port of Miami. There are two issues with this...cost (the distance is much greater than from Fort Lauderdale) and traffic. Keep in mind that there is often traffic along I95 throughout South Florida. Without traffic, you are probably looking at an hour and a half to get to the airport from Miami. With an 11:40 am departure you should be at the airport by 10 am at the latest. If you are one of the first off the ship and have transportation lined up and have no traffic you will probably make it, but it would be tight.

 

We are traveling out of Ft. Lauderdale next month and all of our guests who are flying were advised (by the cruiseline) not to make flight arrangements out of Ft. Lauderdale (5 - 10 minutes from the port) until after noon (later if using other airports).

 

Definitely check the East Coast Homeports board. There may be some locals on there that can give you some good suggestions for transportation.

thanks... that is a huge help! definitely dont want to take that flight out!
