We once won $200. A friend's brother won a free cruise on his very first ticket.

Is this a cash system where you just hand the "seller" a dollar or whatever the cost is, or do you pull out your sea pass card?

 

And it must be very different from HAL's selling chances for a free cruise. You bought them at the reception desk. Special 3/$20 sound about right? One of our cruise critic group had won a free cruise and was not allowed to divulge how much she had to pay. She'd upgraded from the inside lowest cat. to an ocean view. Is the free cruise an inside low category?

On the Jewel, they were taking your cabin # and handing you a strip. The cost was $20. I didn't buy any, so not quite sure how it worked. I'm sure someone can chime in. It looked like a strip with maybe 10? window thingys- is there a chance under each one?

ha! You're right! I was thinking I got the lowest category on Dawn for $549 but that was before taxes and fees!

 

Also a good price out there right now is Majesty to Bermuda for $399. Since the port taxes are included in that fare that's probably pretty close to the $280 + port!

Cost was $20 for 5 strips of tickets in the "Krackits" (Raffle) We finally succumbed and bought our winning strip while they were flogging them in the Spinacker Lounge.

I understand they go through a box of tickets each week, one wins a cruise , and one wins $1000. (Minor prize pay outs as well). Obviously brings in big dollars, and the losers are the the ones more than paying for the winners cruise. Thanks to you all for that :D

 

And yes, they charge your on board account.

 

Prize was for an inside cabin (no cat specified)

 

The "guest fare" applied is 2 x 140 = 280

 

I will probably invest again, but will be asking about the extra costs for winning next time. :rolleyes:

I find it almost as annoying as people pushing drinks on a cruiseship. DH bought the krackits one night. He won a free package of krackits. That was out extent of purchases onboard.

 

DH dropped the rest of his money in the casino.

I agree. It's tacky. But easily ignored. I was too busy flagging down a waiter for my pina colada. :D

 

I agree, Extremely Tacky but not easily ignored. One night I was "lucky" enough to get hit in the head a couple of times by the big orange bag of tickets being carried by a cruise staff member. No apologies...only scowls because I wasn't buying. Another night my SIL got her foot stepped on several times by another seller who kept crawling through our aisle. She asked him quite nicely to please be more careful. He just kept right on stepping over (and on) her without ever looking at her or responding in any way to her request or ever giving an apology. There seemed to be less waiters than cruise staff selling the tickets. I, too, would take a pina colada over a chance at $2,000. And what they don't tell you up front is that the raffle tickets you are getting are only good if you go to the last morning of BINGO. I just found the whole thing rather yucky.
