I am SO bummed! I'm supposed to be in Hawaii right now

Don't worry about the 76's from LAX. The biggest issue is that they will be full, but those planes are so nice. Widebodied but not huge. If you have to fly for 5 hours those are the planes to fly in. Quiet, more space than most. I'M JEALOUS!!!

Not only are we going on a 767, but i'm using FF miles for First Class round trip! I traveled a lot to Europe for work back and forth for about a year, so had oodles of FF miles. Decided to splurge - DH is 6'5" and First will be wonderful for him. We are flying out of LAX - heading up there the day before the flight leaves and staying by the airport so we don't have to get up at 3AM to drive up. I wanted the direct flight instead of going thru SAN or SNA and changing in LAX so there is less of a chance of them losing our bags ;)

Also using Marriott Rewards points for two nights in Waikiki before the cruise and using Hilton points for the Embassy Suites Waikiki for one night after the cruise. :)

First class sounds awesome!! I flew First Class once and it was the best. The leg room is to die for.

Question, and I'm getting back on topic, (and I don't mind if you guys go off topic, but if it's against rules, I understand??)

anyway, my question... When we were supposed to fly out on Friday the 4th, I had reservations that Friday night at the Park Shore Waikiki. I found it on hotels.com. Very reasonable price and right on Waikiki beach. It was just one night before our cruise was to sail, so I wanted something that was a bargain. I'm wondering if anyone has ever stayed there? I'd like to know if it's any good, for the future.

Then, on Saturday the 12th, the ship docks around 7am I guess? Well our flight home wasn't supposed to take off till 10:30pm I believe. We had a full day, so I got a day rate on the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort and Spa so we could just hang out. I didn't know how tired we'd be and it was a long time before our plane would leave that night. Has anyone been to this hotel?

I am just curious for the future!

thanks!

Tina

OMG! We'll have to have a whole land cruise! I love this!

Kenish, where are you? My other sister and BIL lived in Laguna Niguel until about 8 months ago. They moved to the wilds above Alberquerque and are building a house on their 10 acres of desolate desert vistas. Not my style at all. But, since my daughter lives up in L.A. we often meet for brunch in the OC on Sundays when neither of us want to go the whole way to the others' house.Jana

Rancho Santa Margarita...I know my profile says MV but lots of people have no idea where RSM is! Interesting about ABQ; a co-worker is there checking it out, he wants to move his family out of OC. I'm one of the few OC natives and offer free road maps to anyone wanting to move away (just kidding).

BDL: UA no longer has flights from SNA-LAX. With Aloha's demise the only way to get from SNA to Hawaii is through SFO, PHX, LAS, etc. If you're going through SFO, another option is Carlsbad Airport (CLD).

Catalina boats leave from Dana Pt. and Newport Beach.

The "land cruise" could go to Las Vegas. There's the faux volcano and casinos too. We can "visit" Paris, Venice, New York, the Caribbean, ancient Rome, the South Pacific, and Egypt all in an afternoon.

Unless I missed it (sorry if I did) - if it's a true Hawaiian experience, you have to be lei'd when you arrive. At least we were when we went to our "traditional" Hawaiian luau.

You're absolutely right!

This is one of the few areas in the U.S. outside of Hawaii where plumeria flourishes so I think we can find the blossoms.

Gorgeous, Micki! Thank you! You're like a built-in Minister of Education; how do you know all this stuff?

Tina, you might want to check out the Roll Call for your sailing and ask those who return, or you could check out other roll call's to see if other people have stayed there. They've probably put details in their reviews.

We have now expanded to an 'Around the World' land cruise. The group of us trudging along with our Kona coffee, macadamea nuts, spam, bucket of snails and one sea lion.:p

I think our Minister of Education needs to give you spelling lessons!

It's all the same to me!

You probably won't want me to come do my fire dance I bet. At the luau they said I was one of the quickest they had ever seen pick it up. :D As you can see they even made me part of the show!

I'm up for Vegas! There's also Carnaval in Brazil, the Mediterranian, Olde England and a couple of desert-centric Arabian Nights offerings.

On the other hand, we can avoid the long drive, go to Pechanga for part of a day and visit the new wine country in Temecula...

At night, Monte can head up our version of Fountains:

Nope, we're gonna discontinue fountains to avoid the risk of spreading noro virus. ;)

I'm heading to Vegas in 3 weeks & just might make a run to Planet Hollywood just to visit the ABC stores in their mall. I need to restock on Mac Nut candy.

LMAO - fun thread -

Monte - were you standing behind that strapping young man, or did he jump in front of you when they took the picture. :D

For a volcano you could try:

1 large bottle of Diet Coke (works better)

1 roll of Mentos

Wrap a brown bath towel around the bottle of Diet Coke - there's your mountain - take the cap off the Coke - drop in the mentos (all at once)

and voila - you have a nice erupting volcano. A bit messy though

No, really, that's me, I swear!

I've also made volcanoes. Drink as much beer & cheap wine as quickly as possible for as long as possible.

Voila-an erupting volcano!

I answered but got the WSOD. I'm sure you're abed now :o

Yes, things got a little wacky and I couldn't access either. Must have been updating. I'm sure they plan it when they don't think people are on so much, which I suppose 'normal' people aren't at 4:00 in the morning. LOL:D

Thanks kenish :) We're flying AA, not UA. I thougth AA flew from both, but I just looked and you are right - they don't fly from SNA unless we want to change in Dallas  . Nevertheless we decided not to temp the baggage gremlins and are going with a direct flight. It gives us an excuse to take an extra day off from work and have dinner with some friends up in Santa Monica the night before our flight.

Skybus story I thought was interesting. They're headed to San Diego, maybe they'd like to join us.:D

http://www.gadling.com/2008/04/08/skybuss-bankruptcy-affects-honeymoon-plans-35-years-in-the-maki/

Good link - sad story that ends up ok in the end. 35 years dating? WOW

Would like to hear that story too.

Did you happen to check out the one on the same site about the Bride to be who's gown was lost at Terminal 5 (Heathrow) - she was headed to Hawaii for her wedding/honeymoon April 3rd. Talk about bad omens.

wait -- You need to add a shopping stop -- a few more miles north or RSM (well, more like west maybe) - - HILO HATTIE at the Block of Orange...

Hey their site says there is one in the Gaslmap quarter in San Diego

-- there you go -- hilo hatti in 2 counties!

Jana,

Thanks for the title but with the internet one can find all sorts of info.

I also appreciate the invitation to the party but I must decline. I will say if y'all ever get together, you will have one heck of a good time. I post on a thread in Floataway and because several of us have been doing so for almost 3 years we have what's called F2F (Face to Face) meetings. These can take place in airports ( one US fella was in Germany and 2 folks from different cities met up for an hour visit) at restaurants, etc. This summer we have a huge gathering scheduled in Chicago that will bring folks from across the states and Canada. We've also done one group cruise and a second is currently being booked for Alaska next year. If y'all keep going, you should try to make this plan you have a reality.

Tina, like others, I will check back in to see how this all plays out.

Now as to lei'd and laid, well we could be generous and say that a recent speedreading course took the brain into overdrive and it did not compute the word properly.

Aahhh, that's no fun! ;)

mbission, we know what's on your mind and it's not flowers. :D
