Mezcalitos

I was just there a week ago Sunday. And yes the margaritas are not that large but kick some serious a**. You can rent a car or taxi. A car will cost you 50-80 dollars a day and GET ALL THE INSURANCE they offer. While your credit card/home auto policy may cover you, they will not accept it on the island for direct payment if you have an accident. Thus they will not allow you to leave the island until you pay up and recover from them later. Unless you carry around enough cash to pay for a couple of cars, get the Mexican insurance.

Taxis- depending on the size of your group taxis may be better and cheaper. Here is a link to give you an idea of the costs.

Two suggestions if you choose to cab over to Mezcalitos or other east side beaches/bars.

1. Try to hire a cab for the day/afternoon. Negotiate with the indivdual driver to see if he is available to be your driver for X number of hours. If you can he is your persnal chauffer.

2. If you hire a cab to take you to Mezcalitos, don't do it from the cruise ship pier. All the cab fares are by a schedule in Coz. The schedule from the cruise ship piers is the most expensive of anywhere on Coz. Take a taxi to the downtown area and get out walk around and get a second cab to take you from downtown to Mezcalitos. If you check the linked page look at the fares from the Punta Langosta pier and compare to the downtown page. For example From the pier to Chen Rio beach is $21 from downtown it is $15. From the pier to Playa Bonita Beach is $24 from downtown is is $18. The rub is that the Punta Langosta pier is downtown. You just get the honor of paying $6 more if you get in the cab in front of the pier rather than a couple of blocks away. Welcome to the world of screw the cruisers pricing.

Last tip- ask the price before you get in the cab, and don't even let them know you are off a ship, don't take the return trip straight to the pier, but back through downtown.

Enjoy

Rich
