St Maarten on Sundays

I've read that a lot of shops/services are closed on Sundays. As this is the day I visit the island, would it be better to take a organized tour or rent a car as I had planned?

We were in St Maarten on a Sunday this past February. We did the 12 metre race...what a blast!!! We also did a 3 hour private tour with Joyce for $35 pp. Many of the stores were closed especially on the French side but the open air market in Marigot was open. I wanted to go to Rima's Beachwear store. So I emailed them and told them when we would be there. I got an email back saying that they would be open from 10-2. We arrived about 1 pm and they were closed. The good news about being in St Maarten on a Sunday is that there is not much island traffic.:D
