sammiedawg Posted April 13, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 13, 2008 Rick Steve's book emphasizes Croatia does not participate in the Euro system and Last year I was suprised to see an ATM gives money out in the Croatian currency , kronas I think is the currency name Do I need to get Croatian money to walk the walls? Do they accept Euro? Do they take credit card? Rick Steves says it is 50 kronas. Any idea how much that is in Euros? We are walking the wall on our own. I dont want to be stuck with unused kronas. Will taxi drivers accept Euro? Thanks very much
California Native Posted April 13, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 13, 2008 Hi! The legal currency is the Kuna, they may or may not except the Euro. Chances are they will, but they don't have to ... the best way to determine the currency exchange at the time you are going is to go to Oanda.com or xe.com at this moment 50 kuna is worth almost 7 euro If you would like to learn more about Dubrovnik head to our personal travel journal which is the link below and go into Our Next Adventure. Also, you might enjoy wandering the journal pages, the money section will give you more tips than what I mention above Have a great time! haggis Posted April 13, 2008 #3 Share Posted April 13, 2008 Last time we walked the walls it was free. Maybe things have changed but its new to me if there is a charge. Its a bit of a hike getting up there at the main entrance to the old town but its well worth it. Jimmy
lambs2 Posted April 13, 2008 #4 Share Posted April 13, 2008 We were in Dubrovnik last May. The attendants at the Wall took Euros. It was €6 for walking the wall last May.

RadFamily Posted April 13, 2008 #7 Share Posted April 13, 2008 We were in Dubrovnik last August and Euros were widely accepted. We purchased HUGE cones of gelato for only 1 Euro!! It was wonderful. We also ate lunch in town (which was delicious and fresh by the way) and bought a few small things and we paid with Euros for everything.

lambs2 Posted April 14, 2008 #9 Share Posted April 14, 2008 Will taxi drivers accept Euro? Thanks very much Yes. Last May we took a taxi to and from the old walled city and shared with another couple. The cost was €10 each way (fixed taxi prices there) and it was much faster than the ship's shuttle where you had to wait for the bus to fill each way. We got to the wall before any of the tours or ship shuttles arrived, and for the first hour I think we were the only ones walking it! It quickly filled with people by the time we got back to where we started and were ready to exit.
Janetb Posted April 14, 2008 #10 Share Posted April 14, 2008 You can pay in Euro and almost everywhere else. One thing to note the wall doesn't open till 9:00 and we were early- so have a coffee and be there when it opens.
