Shipping Hallibut

We are going on our first cruise/tour to Alaska the end of June. I would love to have some halibut shipped back to canada while we are there. We could have it shipped to relatives in North Dakota if that would be easier than Canada. Does anyone have information on doing this? Where would be the best place to buy the halibut and have it shipped? We will be in Anchorage, Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway. Also, any recommendations on where to eat the best halibut steaks or fish and chips along our route.

It's not worth the cost to BUY fish and then have it shipped home. If you're CATCHING fish, there are places that will flash freeze it and Fed EX to home. That too is expensive. Plus, if you've paid for the fishing trip, no guarentee you'll actually catch anything. We spent 3 months in Alsaka one summer and shipped over 400 pounds of fish home.

Everywhere you eat will offer fresh and wonderful fish. No special places need be recommended.

You could try contacting Coal Point Seafood Co, in Homer Ak. They sell and ship Halibut and fresh salmon. Or you could do a halibut charter, two people approx $190 to $ 225 per person , limit two per person . average size 25 to 30 lbs. These will dress out about 50 lbs. of fish for two people. now the fun starts,$500.00 for charter 50.00 tip for deck hand, vacumn pack and freeze 50.00,shipping box 20.00,overnite Fed-Ex 156.00,total $776.00 . The experience priceless.Or eat halibut while in Alaska , buy and ship a little home. Spend the rest on some good midwest beef when you get home. Have a great time on your trip .We are headed back for the third time in four years, cant get enough of it. Fish fish fish

So that comes out about $150 a pound. That is right there with some of the $200 ducks, $50 pheasants, and $80 a pound venison I have hunted and eaten. :D But I will agree.... priceless outdoor experience. ;)
