Experience with repositioning cruises?

We will be taking the Pride to Miaimi in March of 2009. Flying from Reno to LA/Long Beach/Orange County (who knows?) and back to Reno from Miami. My question is this --on average, how early do the cruiselines get you to the port? We have never done the cruise air thing before so I'm curious. I know I could pay for the deviation, but don't want to unless it's necessary. While I realize there are always different circumstances, I am looking for a general guideline in terms of time. Thanks for your input, it is appreciated.
