PAHORNER Posted April 22, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 22, 2008 Hey Lisa, DH and I will be visiting Aruba, and since you are "the knower of all things Aruba" I wanted to ask you it what I have planned is doable. Ship will be in port from 8 am to 5 pm on a Tuesday, I would like to take the city bus to Eagle Beach till about noon, go back to ship get cleaned up and head to the Renaissance Mall, actually grab some lunch there. I'm not sure how far the ship's pier is from the Renaissance. Could use your guidance. Thanks Patty
Arubalisa Posted April 22, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 22, 2008 Very easily doable! ;) :) Just a 5 minute walk...faster if you could swim across :p from the ship to the water's edge. To do lunch, you simply have to walk around the corner from the exit of the terminal. http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=12.519379&lon=-70.038121&z=17&l=0&m=a&v=

GatorTom Posted April 23, 2008 #4 Share Posted April 23, 2008 That is a great map! Are they available for other Islands and if so how do you find them? - Back to my question. When we where leaving on the Crown Princess a couple of weeks ago the ship was coming out of port and was just in front of the airport and just off the runway was a small sliver of a barrier Island. In the middle of the Island there was a breakwater with a nice beach and several thatched roofed buildings. It looked very nice and when your expand the map it identified the area as Renaissance Island/Flamingo Beach/Iquana Beach. Do you know anything about it? is it public or is it associated with a Resort? How would you get there? I just thought it might be a nice close in beach that might be good for my next visit. They sell day passes for $75 pp which includes use of the island, transport via their boat shuttle, lunch and one beverage. You have to be a resort guest or purchase the pass to even get on the shuttle to get to the island. A similar option, not quite as nice imho, is De Palm Island http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=12.469431&lon=-69.984627&z=14&l=0&m=a&v=2 You can go anywhere in the world you like with the map http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=12.500364&lon=-70.028937&z=1&l=0&m=a&v=2 Just use the "+" and "-" to zoon in and out and then drag the screen to get a more specific location. http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=15.623037&lon=-69.851074&z=6&l=0&m=a&v=2 this is the Caribbean. :)

Arubalisa Posted April 24, 2008 #7 Share Posted April 24, 2008 Hello- Can you recommend any seafood restaurants near the port of elsewhere near by? Thank you :D Seafood restaurants within walking distance of the ship are the Driftwood Restaurant http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=12.519437&lon=-70.035712&z=17&l=0&m=a&v=2 or Old Fisherman http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=12.520867&lon=-70.039499&z=17&l=0&m=a&v=2 Old Fisherman is more rustic and more of a "local" restaurant. Arubalisa Posted April 24, 2008 #11 Share Posted April 24, 2008 When you see prices (on menu on Driftwood)and hear the bus is 2.30 is that US currency or AFL Aruba florin ? http://dinearuba.com/Documents/Driftwood.pdf here is a link to their menu which is supposed to be "updated". Prices at this link are in US dollars. When you see prices in Florins they are generally printed as Afl. 9,99. Notice the comma, in place of the USD traditional decimal point. An example http://www.marinapiratarestaurant.com/images/menu.gif The price for the bus is $2.30 in US dollars.

Arubalisa Posted April 25, 2008 #13 Share Posted April 25, 2008 Thanks for the info but how far is Smokey Joes from the cruise ship docks? For Smokey Joes at Palm Beach you would need to take a taxi or the bus. If you are sticking to downtown Oranjestad, Iguana Joes would be your choice.
