chuly Posted April 23, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 23, 2008 Hello: A group of friends are thinking of booking a transatlantic from UK to New Jersey. Some in the group are saying that they have been told that the Norther transatlantics have very rough seas as opposed to the ones ending in Florida and Puerto Rico. Any advice and recommendation would be very much appreciated. Thanks :)
G.M.T. Posted April 23, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 23, 2008 Hello: A group of friends are thinking of booking a transatlantic from UK to New Jersey. Some in the group are saying that they have been told that the Norther transatlantics have very rough seas as opposed to the ones ending in Florida and Puerto Rico. Any advice and recommendation would be very much appreciated. Thanks :) Going via the north Atlantic route the chance of experiencing rough seas, stormy unsettled weather is much greater than going via the southern route vis the tropics and trade winds. Of course you have to be careful about the southern route when travelling June to November i.e. the Hurricane Season. We did the the southern route last year FLL to Savona, Italy had 6 gorgeous days of great sunny, warm weather. Ron
bethwendy Posted April 23, 2008 #3 Share Posted April 23, 2008 We did the Northern route 2 yrs ago, sailing on the Golden Princess from Scotland to NY the end of August. We did have some rough seas the first 2-3 day, with each day getting smoother. It was also pretty chilly those few days. My husband gets very seasick, but he took his dramamine pills & was fine. We arrived in NY while it was still dark in the AM & circled the Statue of Liberty - beautiful! It was a wonderful voyage & I would highly recommend it! MistyMoo Posted April 25, 2008 #5 Share Posted April 25, 2008 We did the QM2 from NY to Southampton last June and did not encounter any rough waters. Also, I believe the QM2 was built to handle the transatlantic waters.
