Maybe they use leaky coax on cabin decks? That would be better than the expense and maintenance of a bazillion APs.

 

Actually the biggest challenge is modern ships are made of a bunch of prefabbed steel modules, basically a ship is a loose collection of a bunch of RF shields.

Absolutely right - not exactly the most hospitable environment for RF propagation. Like a bunch of Faraday cages piled on top of each other...

I was skeptical that wireless is workable on these ships except in large open areas, but perhaps they do work for hundreds of feet in the cabin areas based on what I hear on other threads about hearing neighbors and their nocturnal activities ;) They can't have much metal between the rooms could they :rolleyes:
