Day Trip from Rome

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. We are a family of 7, including three young children and two seniors, who will be staying pre-cruise in Rome for a few days and we are exploring possible day trips.

One tour we are considering is with "Rome in Limo" (gets great reviews here on CC overall) that goes to Todi, Orvieto, Assisi and Spoleto. Has anyone ever taken this tour? If so, I would appreciate hearing from you.

HI,

You didn't say where else your cruise is visiting...this info is crucial in order to really respond...my initial reaction is that you should really see Rome well since you are staying there, and that the cities/towns you mentioned in Tuscany and Umbria are all a bit far away, especially Assisi. This tour sounds like MUCH too long a day especially for people with young children. If your cruise itinerary does not include seeing many ruins then Ostica Antica is a very interesting day trip (it is near the Rome Airport) and has lovely ruins and the kids can run around all over the place and explore-we took my husbands grandsons there and they loved it.

If you are only staying in Rome for a few days (how few?). Really you won't get bored in Rome. You have the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, The Vatican, The Colluseum and the Forum for starters. Then there is the Borghese Park, the Via Veneto, the Spanish Steps- restaurants abound.

After all that there is still shopping to be done. Relax- stay in Rome- you will be traveling plenty on the ship.

Is this tour supposed to visit ALL four cities in one day? That would positively be a death-march. Assisi is a great-but-tiring day-trip all by itself, e.g. Unless you've already visited Rome countless times and know it inside out, you and your kids could find interesting things to do/see there for months on end, on foot and in many cases for free!
