Binoculars for trip

Does anyone know anything about Vortex binoculars? How do they compare to Bushnell or Nikon Monarchs? We really just want binoculars for this trip to Alaska and to watch some birds inour backyard. We don't want to spend a fortune but since Alaska is a once in a lifetime kind of place we don't want to miss anything. Thanks.

I really don't know anything about binoculars but my husband does and he bought a really nice one from overstock.com that is also waterproof. they had lots of different options.

In a previous thread thread there was considerable discusion about Rex-Rays and the concensus was that it was a good product at a reasonable price.

In my experience, Nikon Monarch, Bushnell Legend, and Zen-Ray summits are all excellent binoculars with similar quality. They also offer some less expensive models, which should work fine for occasional use. Unless you plan to use binoculars every weekend, it won't make sense to spend $$$$ for a pair of it.
