I am sailing on the Paradise in June. Does the west coast have rougher waters than sailing from Florida? How smokey is the ship? Do they have or can I request a non smoking cabin? Thanks for your help:o

water can be rough anywhere. . your out in the middle of the ocean. . I have sailed the western, eastern and southern and there were rough waters on the western and eastern both. . so you just never know.

There are specific spots on the ship that are for smoking only so you can avoid the smokers if you stay out of like the casino or I believe port side of the upper decks are all smoking so just stay on the starboard side and you will be fine. . and as far as I know all cabins can have smokers in them. they don't have nonsmoking rooms I don't think. But I could be wrong. just take a can of airfreshner to be safe. hope that info helps

I have usually found the waters off the left coast to have a few more bumps than the Caribbean, although at times I am sure it is reversed.

No non-smoking cabins, but I have never found the cabins to be smoky. The bathrooms have pretty good exhaust fans and get rid of all kinds of odors.

The casino will probably be smoky, but the dining rooms and many other public areas are non-smoking.

We have sailed out of Long Beach several times, San Diego once, Miami several times, and Galveston twice. I haven't noticed a huge difference in any of them.

I also haven't noticed the Paradise being particularly smokey. I don't think there are specific non-smoking rooms....although come to think of it, wasn't the Paradise Carnival's experiment in "completely smoke-free" cruising (that failed)?

Basically, we haven't noticed any significant difference between sailing the Paradise out of Long Beach and sailing any other Carnival ships out of Florida.

I hope you have a good cruise!

Oh yeah - the Pacific tends to be cooler than the Atlantic, depending on when and where you are cruising.

But I did like my recent Carnival Pride cruise a couple of months ago.

I would not pick one area over the other based on bumps in the road or smoke.

I've only sailed the Pacific and wouldn't describe the water as rough at all.

Only areas I found to be smoky were the America Bar and the casino. And the people sitting around us on the Lido Deck puffing away...on the non smoking side of the ship.

The Paradise isn't smoke free anymore? Why not?

Wasn't bringing in the "fat cash", or "cheddar" if you prefer. They figured out that non smokers tend to gamble and drink less than their smokey counterparts. And what two things bring in the most money aboard a cruise ship? Yep, booze and casinos.

As for the ride, she goes so slow you don't feel much of anything unless the seas are really up. Its only like 20 miles out to Catalina from LA, and then another 200 (I think) to Ensenada. There were some times when I though the ship was stopped. The comedian joked the first night "what are we doin' donuts out here" when commenting on the overnight trip from LA to Catalina. Most of the Ferries can make the trip in like 45 minutes from what the locals said. It was by far the slowest cruise we have been on. Kinda strange after coming off Glory's eastern route. I felt like I could water ski behind that ship.

It's no joke they do donuts or circle eights or whatever you want to call it. We sat by the pool on the last sea day once and watched Catalina on our left then right then left all day long:p

Been on the Paradise 6 times - one Jan. cruise was a little rocky. We have had bad experiences with smoke twice - once the people next door were chain smokers & I could smell smoke a few times. Another time we got in the room & it reeked of smoke. The cabin steward put in an ionizer & the smell was gone in a couple of hours. I also got fresh pillows since they were bad when I put my head down.
