Car rental in Nice - driving to Monaco and Eze

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any info/feedback/advice on renting a car in Nice then driving to Monaco and Eze?

DH has driven around that area before, and we have a Nuvi (GPS) we are bringing with us. I'm just wondering if we can get parking somewhere around Monaco and then Eze. The Nuvi gave us some parking options, so it looks possible.

Anway, just wondering if anyone has looked into this and has an opinion? Is there a car rental place close to the Nice port? We are there on a Sunday and the public transportation options look pretty limited.

Oh yes, we will be there one week from today on Sunday, the week before the Grand Prix.

Thanks.

Hi leela14. We have driven to Monaco and Eze several times via Nice. This year, we are picking up our car (rented via Hertz) at their location by the McDonalds off of the Promenade. It is about 4 miles from the port. We had to rent an automatic so needed a larger rental spot- there are likely closer ones to the port. We normally fly into Nice and have not arrived by boat before.

In Monaco, we parked at the parking garage right by the casino in Monte Carlo- take the escalator up and you arrive just outside. Signage was very good. In Eze, there is parking at the base of the village. I believe we had to validate parking tickets in both places. You will see signs and the machines. Beware the drive into Eze. The streets are very narrow and you may hold your breath more than once when a tour bus passes (no drop off or anything but it is very tight- rent a small car and tuck your mirrors- the small Mercedes allows you to tuck or untuck mirrors at the touch of a button- and they or Hertz anyway- check the cars thoroughly at drop off). If you are into gourmet olive oils or liquores, stop by Les Trois Etoiles in Eze Village. I highly recommend the truffle oil and the Limoncello- you can sample any/ all of their tasty concoctions. Makes for great gifts if you don't drink all the spirits before you deliver them :)

Great excursion picks- and you'll get to see the grandstands for the Grand Prix. Our 6 year old wears his 07 Monaco Grand Prix shirt (aka his 'race car shirt') all the time- great souvenirs for younger ones and/ or racing fans. Enjoy!

We got shirts there for our grandsons last year too! We were actually there on the day of the time trials and the view of the stands and Grand Prix course from on top The Rock was fantastic!
