RetdCruizers Posted May 12, 2008 #1 Share Posted May 12, 2008 When Princess sails from Naples toward Athens ... will the ship pass close enough to Stromboli Volcano to be able to view the eruptions? And if so, will it be on the port side or starboard side of the ship? We would love to be able to view this volcano as we are passing by that location, but not sure if it will be close enough to see it. Thanks for your answer.
cruising g-mom Posted May 12, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2008 I am not sure if the cruise lines follow the same route or not, but last November we sailed past Stromboli on RCCL and were able to enjoy the view for quite some time. They did announce that we were approaching so most people were out on deck (even though it was very cool). It is very impressive although we didn't see any eruption. The fact that people live on it was enough for me.

Question...were you going toward Naples or toward Greece when you passed the volcano...we are trying to determine what side of the ship it will be on as we cruise by. We would certainly love to see it...and it would be wonderful if we can view it from our balcony!! But, a quick trip on to the deck would be okay, too ... (with a jacket). Can't believe that people live on the volcano....YIKES ! And I thought Dallas was hot !! Thanks again !!
