Are there any safety concerns for tourists in Limon, Costa Rica?

As with any port, there are going to be good and bad areas. We were there two years ago and it was beautiful. Just stay with your tour group and you'll have nothing to worry about.

I wouldn't wander around town on my own...but there are great local tour guides that collect on the pier and for a reasonable cost they will take you around town...and that part of Costa Rica.

My wife did a zip-line there and I did a countryside and canal tour. Both were great! I booked in advance with Oscar Brown...but there are a couple of very highly recommended operators.

Also at the top of the pier is a great market that is on the inside of the pier perimeter fence with all kinds of local artisan stuff. It is pleasant, well organized and clean. No pressure from vendors.
